I love making accessories from wires, old jeans, beads, cloth and just about ...ANYTHING.

Trash 'Art' [ Recycle-Circle ]

Trash Art….. Art from Trash

Every thing we see and consume is bound to be trash in future..... EVERYTHING! And I mean everything. Through this project, I'm aspiring to explore 'Anti-Trash' and also find a way for reuse and rethinking materials. Rethink about what we call trash and why do we say so?

“One man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, this much used proverb actually stands strangely true especially in my case, in the form of artistic up-cycling. The garbage/waste is a material found in abundance and a lot of today's crazy yet amazing and creative art uses this simplest of material. 

                                                                 

RECYCLE CIRCLE :

For this project, I used trash to create shadow art, looking at all kinds of trash and waste in a very “different light” altogether. In a sense the wall becomes my canvas and the junk along with light constitutes the material to work with. One could also find the sync between the ‘painting’, ‘sketch’ and the sculpture. It would be worth noting that the sculpture also comments on the endless cycle of consumerism as well as recycling. 

The work is created in such a manner that when light shines from a specific direction, the work has a 'meaningful' shadow, whereas from other directions the sculpture gives abstract shadows.

Recycle-Circle, the name itself has two obvious meanings woven into one. Firstly, the process of recycle is circular and never ending and secondly the shadow created by the sculpture shows a man catching the waste and 'recycling' to create another sculpture using circles.


The trash that was (personally) collected over a period of one month was exposed to the audience and not covered or hidden. One could identify the various kinds of trash used for the creation of the sculpture from toffee/chocolate wrappers to an old-used toothbrush to even the glue and tape used to make the sculpture and much more.


Tim Noble, Sue Webster and Diet Wiegman were my inspirations to use the concept of trash and shadows and present my own rendition of shadow art.
